The Holy Week of Zamora generates an economic impact of twelve million euros, according to a study presented by this Monday by the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sports, Gonzalo Santonja, who explained that the report is prepared with data collected during Holy Week of 2024.
Santonja has been accompanied by the president of the Governing Board of the Pro-Semana Santa Zamora Board, Israel López Campos, and Fernando Cabañeros, on behalf of Excellence Innova. The counselor has advanced that it is a study that “values the socioeconomic impact of Holy Week Zamora from two perspectives, on the one hand, the economic impact it has on the city of Zamora and, on the other, the social impact between the inhabitants of the city and the visitors.”
This analysis is part of a series of studies, in charge of the Junta de Castilla y León, which analyze the impact of the celebrations of the Holy Week declared as parties of International Tourist Interest, initiated last year, presenting this year the data of the Week of Zamora and that will continue next year, with the presentation of the study of the Holy Week of León, thus completing with the rest of the saints that are part of this group.
As explained during its presentation, “such interesting data as the economic impact of the Holy Week of Zamora exceeded 12 million euros and the important influence of Holy Week in the city, from a tourist point of view, where visitors dedicate an average of more than three days to enjoy the celebrations and hope to see about four and five processions in their visit to the city of the Duero. In addition, 85 % of the residents consider that the Holy Week For Zamora’s economy and almost 65 % of visitors described their experience with Zamora Holy Week as fully satisfactory. “
Castilla y León is the leading community in Spain in Holy Week celebrations declared of international tourist interest, with nine today: Ávila, León, Medina del Campo, Medina de Rioseco, Palencia, Salamanca, Valladolid, Zamora and the round and procession of the steps in León.
The Holy Week of Zamora has the international recognition since 1986 and in 2015 he received the declaration of cultural interest of an immaterial nature, by the Junta de Castilla y León, being one of the only three celebrations that enjoy this statement, together with that of Medina de Rioseco and on Holy Thursday and Good Friday, of Bercians of Aliste.
Holy Week support of the community
