Far-right outsider Milei wins Argentina presidential run-off election Javier Milei has won Argentina’s presidential run-off poll, according to provisional results. The far-right libertarian has received a call from his rival, Sergio Massa who conceded. Former US President Donald Trump congratulated Milei on his victory, saying “Make Argentina Great Again!”. Argentina is currently struggling with rising inflation and an economy in crisis. Milei’s proposals include detonating the central bank and introducing the US Dollar as the country’s currency. Provisional results showed Milei had nearly 56% of the vote compared with 44% for Massa, with almost 90% of votes counted.

Israel hopeful of Hamas deal to release hostages in ‘coming days’ The US remains hopeful of reaching a deal to free a significant number of hostages “in the coming days,” according to the Israeli ambassador to the US. Michael Herzog told ABC “serious efforts” were being made, but that the fewer details he revealed, “the better the chances of such a deal”.
