An extreme cleaner spent three days scrubbing a house with the ‘worst fridge’ after finding out a 13-year-old girl lived in the filthy conditions.

Auri Kananen, 30, said the fridge was stuffed with four-year-old rotten food and the kitchen was infested with cockroaches and spiders.

The house in Miami, Florida, belonged to 42-year-old mum who slept on a single sofa with her daughter because the other rooms were inaccessible due to rubbish.

Mouldy food cartons can be seen completely covering floors and the fridge was also full of rancid liquid.

The sink, which Auri said brought her to the home, had a black crust formed on top with clumps of hair stuck to it.

It took 203 bin bags to clear the house, and three days to scrub the house clear of grime.

Auri even built new beds complete with fresh sheets for family.

The extreme cleaner travels the world tackling dirty homes for free and earns money through social media ad revenue and sponsors.

Auri from Tampere, Finland, said: ‘There was so much rotten food in there infested with cockroaches and spiders.

‘The fridge was something out of this world, I have never seen something so dirtylicious.

‘Other trash in the living room, girl’s room and mum’s room included dry trash, toys, food, packages and clothes.

‘You couldn’t see the bathroom floor. We collected 203 big bags of trash.

‘It took us three days to clean it. Three rooms and two bathrooms.’

After Auri gutted the home, she said the mum and the daughter were so grateful and excited the rooms were clean enough they could hear an echo when speaking.

She said: ‘At first, it felt like they didn’t quite understand what we were doing.

‘When the place started to look cleaner they were amazed.

‘The mum thanked us so many times and finally, she came to hug me.

‘The girl went to her room and was cheering because it echoed there – she was so happy about that.’

‘They had to flee their own country’: The lives of migrants at the Franco-Italian border EU

Two renowned anthropologists have spent the past five years documenting the lives of migrants in one specific place. Didier Fassin and Anne-Claire Defossez chose to assist aid workers at a reception centre in the French Alpine town of Briançon, close to the Italian border. They looked at how the migrants were living, what support they received, as well as how they were treated by police. The pair were even arrested while carrying out their research, simply for helping the migrants. They spoke to FRANCE 24’s Gavin Lee in Perspective.
