North Korea the conflict that everyone wants to avoid
The war of words between the United States and North Korea continues. After threatening revenge “a thousand fold” in response to United Nations sanctions, following its road map to Nuclear power & on Tuesday Trump replied “fire and fury like the world has never seen” if North Korea continues to threaten. Diplomatically, President Trump is consistently calling on China, North Korea’s leading trading partner, to do more to rein in its client state. As tensions escalated, Pyongyang said it was “carefully examining” a plan to strike Guam, site of a US military base.
French Police make arrests after Soldiers are hit by a car In Paris
French police have arrested a suspect after a car ploughed into six soldiers near their barracks in the Paris suburb of Levallois-Perret early Wednesday. Of the six soldiers, three sustained minor injuries and the other three have injuries less serious than initially feared, Defence Minister Florence Party told reporters. The vehicle appeared to clearly target the soldiers but the motive is as yet unclear. The incident took place at about 7:00am BST outside the soldiers’ military barracks in the northwestern Paris suburb.
Newcastle gang guilty of sex grooming in Newcastle
Operation Sanctuary, set up by Northumbria Police in December 2013 came to fruition this week when a gang of 18 people has been convicted of abusing girls who were plied with alcohol and drugs before being forced to have sex in Newcastle. The 17 men and one woman were convicted of offences including conspiracy to incite prostitution, rape and drugs. The sting operation involved the police paying £10,000 to convicted child rapist to be an informant. Three of the gang have been jailed. The rest will be sentenced next month.
FBI raid on ex-Trump chairman Paul Manafort over Russain meddling
Federal agents are said to have seized files and other material on 26 July, a day after Mr Manafort voluntarily met the Senate Intelligence Committee. The FBI has conducted a pre-dawn raid on the Virginia home of Donald Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort. The FBI is leading one of the several investigations into alleged Russian meddling in last year’s US election. Paul Manafort was Trumps No2 in the campaign and the FBI finds seem compelling, however thus far no formal comments have been released.
Israel joins Saudi Arabia to try and ban Al Jazeera
The Qatari based news network is being attacked by Israel as it denounces the decision to revoke credentials of its journalists and close its offices in Jerusalem. Ayoub Kara, Israels Communication Minister, made the announcement on Sunday during a press conference in Jerusalem, where Al Jazeera was barred from attending. The pan-Arab network’s offices in the Palestinian territories of Gaza and the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah would not be affected by the current Israeli move. Al Jazeera has said it will continue to cover the events of the occupied Palestinian territories professionally and accurately, according to the standards set by international agencies.
