I see the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree in the Netanyahu household with the news that Yair Netanyahu, the son of Israeli Prime Minister has been banned from Facebook for posting anti-Muslim content.
It all began when Yair wrote on Facebook that: “There will not be peace here [in Israel-Palestine] until 1. All the Jews leave the land of Israel. 2. All the Muslims leave the land of Israel. I prefer the second option.”
Unsurprisingly his unscientific poll went down well among his mates in Israel and by last Friday it had almost 750 ‘favourable’ responses. Spurred on by this, the obnoxious youth continued his anti-Muslim hate agenda by posting: “Do you know where there are no terror attacks? In Iceland and Japan. Coincidentally there’s also no Muslim population there.”
Not quite done, the foolish boy then knocked out another post calling for “avenging the deaths” of two Israeli soldiers killed last week and the expulsion of Palestinians. Facebook removed these posts on the grounds that they were in violation of its community rules, yet undaunted Yair then took a screenshot of the banned post, prompting the social media giant to yesterday to pull the plug on his account for 24 hours.
You’d think at this point he would have decided to remain silent but instead, he posted on Twitter instead crying that Facebook had removed his posts, saying: “Unbelievable. Facebook blocks me for 24 hours for simply criticising it! Thought police.”
The lad is also quite active on Instagram too. Back in May, he posted an anti-Turkish image showing a flag similar to Turkey’s with the words “F*ck Turkey”, using the red flag’s crescent moon to replace the letter ‘c’.
Yair might want to reflect on the fate of Palestinians who’ve taken to Twitter and Facebook and other social networks with similarly robust observations about Israel’s brutal treatment of occupied lands … not only were their accounts closed down but some of them are in prison!
Free speech in the Middle East’s most famous, so-called democracy is obviously only for the privileged Israeli passport holders and certainly not Palestinians, hence the oft-used description Apartheid State.
